MRM calls to step up efforts to locate missing young man

Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has called to step up efforts to locate the young reported missing from Hulhumale’ Phase II over a week ago, as his whereabouts still remain unknown.  

Mohamed Azhan, 27, H. Bondikandholhuge, K. Male’, was reported missing to the police on Monday, September 19, at approximately 7:00pm.

Police continue the search for him, almost 10 days after his disappearance.

In a statement released expressing concern over the lack of progress in efforts by the police to locate Azhan, MRM called on stakeholders to strengthen efforts currently underway.

“Every day that passes without locating Azhan increases the threat to his life. Therewith, this party calls on relevant authorities to enhance search efforts presently underway,” the statement read.

Police on Sunday, said that Azhan was last seen near the Redbull Park located in Hulhumale’ Phase I at approximately 06:00 am September 18.

Police have tracked Azhan’s movements from his guesthouse to H13 in the Hiyaa towers, and back to the area where the guesthouse is located at approximately 04:53am September 18.

He traveled to and from H13 in taxis.

Police said they have identified the drivers of both taxis.

They noted to be reviewing CCTV footage from near the Redbull Park, where he was last seen.

Immigration records do not show he traveled within or outside the Maldives, said police.

Police have asked for anyone with information regarding Azhan’s whereabouts to call the Hulhumale’ Phase II Investigation Department at 9393351, or the police hotline at 3322111.
