Maldives and Kyrgyzstan sign visa waiver agreement

Maldives and Kyrgyzstan signed an agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirements.

The agreement was signed by Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Kulubaev Zheenbek Moldokanovich on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on Friday.

According to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, the agreement allows for the exemption from visas for single or multiple entry, exit or transit for both countries' nationals, for a period of 30 days.

However, Maldivian travelers who stay in Kyrgyzstan for longer than 30 days, or are in the country for educational, medical or business purposes will need to apply for visa.

During discussion following the signing of the agreement, Shahid thanked the Kyrgyz government for their commitment towards strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.

He said the visa waiver agreement will facilitate stronger people to people contact, and business and investment opportunities between Maldives and Kyrgyzstan.
