Addu truck accident: Injured pedestrian still on ventilator

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), on Sunday, has stated that the pedestrian who was hit by a truck in Addu City’s Hithadhoo still remain on ventilator support.

The accident took place at Hithadhoo approximately 06:10pm on Wednesday, September 7. The victim was identified as a 40-year-old man.

He was first treated at Addu Equatorial Hospital – before he was brought to Male’ City, where he was treated at IGMH’s Emergency Room. IGMH’s Spokesperson told Sun today that the man is in ICU, where he still remains on ventilator support.

A resident from Hithadhoo who spoke to Sun regarding the accident said the man sustained critical injuries to his face, head, and other parts of his body, including his internal organs.

CCTV footage of the accident which went viral on social media shows the male pedestrian walking on the side of the road, when the truck collides into him from behind, and runs him over.

Police, in an earlier statement, said that the accident was under investigation by the authority. However, it has not been disclosed whether an arrest have been made in the case.
