The first person to attain a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in the Maldives, renowned scholar Adam Naseem (BA Naseem) has passed away.
Naseem passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning, at the age of 80. His funeral prayer will be held after Zuhr prayer at Islamic Centre.
He is an individual who has served as the president Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Islamic Affairs Council. After long membership at MDP, he left the party to join Adhaalath Party.
Apart from active participation in the political arena – Naseem also worked to raise religious awareness in the Maldivian society. In this regard, he has written and publicized many books pertaining to religion.
He became a teacher at Majeedhiyya School on August 16, 1965, after attaining his BA from renowned Muslim university in India, Aligarh Muslim University. He taught history at the school. People began referring to Naseem as BA Naseem, as he was the first person to attain the qualification from the Maldives.
Following Naseem’s passing, many people have taken to social media to express their condolences and honor his services to the nation.
