Maldives police issued a public announcement on Tuesday, seeking assistance to locate Ibrahim Rafiu, the former senior executive director of National Center for Holy Quran.
Rafiu, 54, Hakeemeege, R. Meedhoo, is one of the men purportedly caught on video having sex with MD Alamgir, a Bangladeshi man who has admitted to engaging in sexual acts with multiple men, including several high-profile Maldivians.
Rafiu was fired from the National Center for Holy Quran after the video leaked online earlier this month.
He reportedly fled to neighboring India.
Police released his photo on Tuesday afternoon, stating he was wanted for questioning in connection to an investigation by the Serious and Organized Crime Department.
Police said his current whereabouts were unknown, leaving them unable to serve his summons for the investigation.
Rafiu has been instructed to present himself to the police headquarters for questioning at 02:00 pm on September 11.
Police have asked for anyone with information regarding his current whereabouts to contact the Serious and Organized Crime Department at 9911099.
Alamgiri was found guilty of the charge of homosexuality on Monday. Three more men allegedly caught on videos have sex with him have also been charged; Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, a prominent lawyer and younger brother of Parliament speaker, former president Mohamed Nasheed, former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel Nasheed), and Sergeant Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, a senior police officer from the Drug Enforcement Department (DED).
