President: Maduvvari harbor project will proceed with community’s input

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday said that the harbour project of M. Maduvvari will proceed only after consulting and gathering the perspective of the island community.

The remarks were made during a statement the President gave at a meeting with the resident community of the island.

Prior to this meeting, President Solih met with public officials of the island and held discussions which largly centered around the harbour project and coastal eroson.

Noting that these were the most pressing concerns of the community of Maduvvari, the President said that the project would commence once the community gave their input about the design concept of the harbour, which caused a stall in the project.

In addition, he announced that a team from the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure would visit Maduvvari in September to hold consultations with the community about the design of the harbour.

President’s Office stated that coastal protection works on the island are expected to commence concurrently.

Among other notable statements made by the President was his announcement of the administration’s plans to resume mobile laboratory services on the Maduvvari. He also stated that a project to develop a youth centre would commence soon.

A senior delegation from the government, including cabinet members, are currently on a tour of Meemu Atoll.

In a meeting with the community of Maduvvari, the cabinet ministers inquired about the community’s needs and provided information on the ongoing and upcoming projects.
