Weekly Covid updates: Cases drop, only 183 last week

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Monday revealed that only 183 people tested positive for Covid-19 between July 24 – July 30.

Notably, looking at statistics, this is a significant drop in case numbers, as in the week prior also there were 394 new cases.

Last week’s 183 cases include 33 cases from the greater Male’ region, 85 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 65 cases from other areas such as resorts and industrial islands.

Meanwhile, only 14 patients were hospitalized.

With these updates, Maldives has now 184,485 confirmed cases and 307 Covid deaths, to date.

After the recent spike in Covid-19 cases in June, numbers have been dropping.

At the time, HPA urged people to wear masks and maintain physical distancing. The country also rolled out the second booster shot, currently open for people above the age of 65 years and high-risk individuals between 18-65 years.

As of July 30, a total of 384,747 people have received two shots of the Covid-19 vaccine – which is 84.97 percent of the eligible population. 165,860 people (36.63 percent) have received the first booster dose, and 922people (0.20 percent) have received the second booster shot.
