Ooredoo Maldives announces expansion of 5G to greater Male' region

Ooredoo Maldives on Monday announced the expansion of its 5G network in the greater Male' region.

During a special press conference held at Meerumaa to celebrate the company’s 17th anniversary - the company revealed that the new expansion will include Male’, Villimale, Hulhumale’ Phase 1 and Hulhule.

Additionally, along with this expansion, Ooredoo also introduced special offers for 5G customers with massive data allowances. 

Furthermore, for customers using SuperNet AirFibre 5G Plans, Ooredoo announced faster speeds of up to 5Mbps, even after utilizing their allocated data allowance.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, Khalid Al Hamadi noted that in the digital age we are currently technology is evolving at an extremely fast pace high-tech services require incredible speeds and low latencies.

"Catering to this need, Ooredoo Maldives was the first to commercially launch 5G services via Ooredoo AirFibre, a first in the market 5G Broadband service. Today as we celebrate 17 years of enriching lives in the Maldives, we are delighted to expand our 5G network across Greater Male’ and enable customers to enjoy the superfast speeds of 5G and ensure seamless uninterrupted services.” 

Mobile data benefits introduced for Ooredoo 5G customers include:

- 5G Aachaa Prepaid: MVR 500, with daily 1GB and 30-day validity

- 5G Magey Prepaid: MVR 500, with 30GB and 30-day validity

- 5G Aachaa Prepaid: MVR 750, with daily 2GB and 30-day validity

- 5G Magey Prepaid: MVR 750, with 60GB and 30-day validity

Apart from the allowance data, a double data bonus for Ooredoo Postpaid 800 is allocated to enhance customers' experience with 5G.

Notably, Ooredoo Maldives was the first operator in Maldives to have rolled out a 4G network nationwide and upgraded its transmission network to full IP. 

In addition to this, Ooredoo Maldives was also the first Ooredoo company to have been granted a 5G spectrum license in February 2018. The company said that the commercial launch of 5G services in the Maldives with the rollout of 5G Services & 5G AirFibre - the 1st 5G Broadband Service in Maldives was a great milestone in the journey to Digital Maldives.

Ooredoo Maldives stated that the company will continue to enhance its network across the nation in order to connect customers to the best technologies and services that the digital world has to offer.
