MET predicts strong winds and wave surges across Maldives

On Saturday, Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) predicted strong winds, rough seas, and possibly wave surges in the next few days.

In the statement issued by the office, it noted that the southwest monsoon has become strong over Maldives, hence in the next three days, “fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms will be experienced over the country.”

Moreover, the MET office stated that along with strong winds, rough seas wave surges were expected, mainly in the central and northern atolls during this period.

Additionally, a country-wide white alert has been issued on Saturday morning at 11:30, in which thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds of 19-24mph with gusts of 45 mph and rough seas are predicted.

Hence, MET cautioned all, particularly seafarers to take all the necessary precautions when travelling.
