MET office predicts stormy weather for the week ahead

Maldives Meteorology Services (MET) predicted stormy weather for a large area of the country in the upcoming week.

Speaking to Sun, an official from MET stated that from Friday, July 29th onwards, all of Maldives will be experiencing strong winds.

Additionally, the official said that from Saturday, July 30th till Monday, August 1st a large area of the country will have thunderstorms. Strong winds and rough seas are also predicted for this time period.

MET predicted gusts of wind between 40mph and 45mph for the next three days.

“For the coming week, stormy weather is expected for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday through to Friday as well. After that, it might get calm.”

Furthermore, the official warned that there is a possibility of wave surges across Maldives in addition to bad weather during that week.

Hence, those travelling by sea are urged to be cautious of the weather.

As the school holidays draw to a close, many are travelling to return in time for the beginning of the new academic year.
