DASA staff to take part in course held by UK’s Department of Transport

Four staff from the Directorate of Aviation Security Administration (DASA) have departed to the United Kingdom to attend a course conducted by the UK’s Department of Transport.

DASA, run under the Defense Ministry, is the regulator of aviation security in Maldives.

Four staff from DASA departed to the UK to attend the International Civil Aviation Organization’s aviation security national inspectors course on Sunday. They were accompanied by Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and DASA’s Director General Hussain Nazeef.

Defense Ministry states the course will be held from July 26-August 3.

All course expenses will be covered by the British government.

Defense Ministry said the purpose of the course was to improve the skills and capabilities of staff responsible for setting policies for the aviation security system and monitoring the implementation of the system through the close ties between Maldives and the UK.

The staff will be trained to ICAO standards, said the Defense Ministry.

UK’s Department of Transport has been extending its assistance to strengthening aviation security in Maldives since 2012, including donating 10 explosive trace detection machines, providing training to Aviation Security Command staff, and providing technical expertise to airport operators to strengthen security.
