Authorities have recovered the body of a tourist who went missing from an overwater villa at the CROSSROADS’ SAii Lagoon Maldives from the waters a little over a nautical mile outside CROSSROADS Maldives.
The deceased was identified by Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) as a 41-year-old Australian, who had been vacationing at CROSSROADS Maldives with family.
According to MNDF, the tourist was last seen at approximately 07:00 pm on Friday, in their villa. The family reported him missing to the resort’s security team after we wasn’t there when the family returned after dinner, at approximately 10:00 pm.
The security team reported the case to the MNDF Coast Guard after they found no sign of him, despite searching the villas.
The case was reported to the MNDF Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) at 06:54 am Saturday.
A team from the MNDF Male’ Area Coast Guard Second Squadron, including divers, arrived at CROSSROADS Maldives at 08:02 am, and initiated a search and rescue operation.
The body of the missing tourist was found floating in the lagoon 1.33 nautical miles outside CROSSROADS Maldives at 09:36 am.
Coast Guard retrieved his body and took it to CROSSROADS Maldives at 09:47 am.
