Nepalese sailor missing after falling overboard from cargo ship

Maldivian authorities are searching for a Nepalese sailor who went missing on Monday night after falling overboard from a cargo ship headed to Male’ City.

According to the police, Raj Kumar fell overboard from Seamax – an Addu-based cargo ship – as it travelled from Addu to Male’ City.

The ship was approximately eight miles off the coast of Fuvahmulah – in the vast sea between Fuvahmulah and Addu - when he was discovered missing.

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coastguard has launched a search and rescue operation to find the missing sailor.

Meanwhile, the police have also launched an investigation into his disappearance.

The incident comes amid torrential rain and thunderstorms across the Maldives.
