Transport Ministry has decided to issue permanent driver’s license for vehicles for foreigners married to Maldivian citizens.

The change was made with the first amendment to the Land Transport Act, published by the Transport Ministry on the Government Gazettes on Sunday.

The change is effectively immediately.

According to the amendment, foreigners married to Maldivian citizens are also eligible for permanent driver’s license. They will also be required to renew their license every 10 years – same as Maldivian citizens.

Foreigners married to Maldivian citizens previously needed to renew their license on an annual basis.
