Several employees of the Vilimale’ Hospital have been suspended for administering expired vaccines to children.
A spokesperson from Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), which manages the Vilimale’ Hospital, told Sun on Sunday afternoon that employees involved in the case have been suspended.
However, the spokesperson was unable to specify the number of employees suspended.
The case was brought to the attention of authorities by Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Usham, who tweeted on Thursday that he had been receiving numerous complaints for his constituents that children were administered expired vaccines by the Vilimale’ Hospital.
After the case came to light, IGMH issued a statement on Friday that the Vilimale’ Hospital had suspended administration of vaccines, and that the case was being looked into by IGMH and Health Protection Agency (HPA) as a serious issue.
Photos shared by Usham show the vaccines in question were manufactured in February 2020 and expired in January 2022. However, the type of vaccine was unclear.
