Met Office warns wave surges likely during high tide

Maldives Meteorological Service issued an advisory on Monday, warning that wave surges are likely during high tides.

The advisory comes as scattered rain with few squally showers and thunderstorms are experienced across Maldives, as the country feels the effects of the Hulhangu (South-West) Monsoon.

A white alert has been issued for strong winds and rough seas from HA. Atoll to Th. Atoll.

The white alert is effective from 11:00 am to 05:00 pm Monday.

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts the area will be effected by strong winds of 19-24 miles per hour, with gusts of 50 miles per hour.

Seas are expected to be rough, with waves expected to reach heights of 5-8 feet.

“Wave surges are likely during high tides. All, especially seafarers are advised to be cautious,” said the service.
