'Ribcage shattered of man who died trapped between boats'

M. Muli Regional Hospital revealed that x-rays of the man who died after getting trapped between two boats near M. Kolhufushi show that most of his ribcage was shattered in the incident.

Speaking to Sun on Wednesday, the manager of Muli Regional Hospital Ahmed Nafiz said that they received reports of the incident at about 05:15 pm. Subsequently, a team from the hospital comprising of a medical officer and two nurses were sent to the scene with MNDF’s Harbor petrol.

He revealed that upon arriving at the scene, the medical officer examined and declared the victim Abdulla Ahmed (B. Hithaadhoo) to have already passed away. However, his body was transferred to Muli Regional Hospital for further tests.

Nafiz detailed that ECG and x-rays were taken, which showed that most of the bones in his rib cage were broken.

Additionally, referring to a crew member from the boat who went to the hospital with Abdulla, Nafiz stated that the vessel was carrying goods and was headed from Male’ to Addu. As the sea was rough that day, the crew member said that they made a stop at M. Thuvaru.

“There is an uninhabited island in this atoll called Thuvaru. [They] wanted to wait just outside the island, and depart today in the morning.’

In order to do this, they wanted to tie the dhoni, and Abdulla slipped and fell between the vessels while trying to do that, according to the crew member, said Nafiz.

The victim's body was brought to Male’ City as per the family's wishes on Wednesday morning.
