Met Office issues yellow alert for southern atolls

Due to impending bad weather, Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued yellow alert for southern Maldivian atolls – warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and very rough seas.

Yellow alert has been issued from Laamu Atoll to Addu City; to be in effect from 9:00am to 14:00pm this afternoon.

During these hours, Met Office anticipates heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds of 25 – 30 mph and gusts of 45 mph with very rough seas within the flagged area.

Meanwhile, white alert has been issued for the whole country – to be in effect from 9:00am to 14:00pm this afternoon.

Met Office anticipates strong winds of 19 -14 mph and rough seas across the country during this time period.
