President Solih: Gov will ensure safety of expatriates working in Maldives

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday noted the numerous Bangladeshi employees in Maldives and spoke of the government’s commitment to protect and provide security for all expatriate workers in the country’s economy.

He made these remarks while welcoming the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Maldives, Rear Admiral S.M. Abdul Kalam Azad.

During a special ceremony held at the President’s Office, the ambassador presented his credentials to President Solih.

Welcoming him to the country, the President congratulated him on his new appointment, and also expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Bangladesh to the socio-economic development of Maldives over the years.

Both President and High Commissioner discussed ways to strengthen the existing bilateral cooperation by implementing the new agreements of cooperation signed during the recent high-level visits between the countries.

Some of the other areas of discussion included COVID-19 vaccination, capacity building, healthcare development, higher education, and regional and international cooperation on issues of common interest.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner thanked the Maldivian government for the assistance granted to the Bangladeshi nationals working in Maldives during the pandemic and for providing ease of access to vaccination for all without any discrimination.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Maldivian government for the donation of AstraZeneca vaccines extended to the people of Bangladesh.

The meeting ended with both President and High Commissioner expressing their commitment to further strengthening the long-standing bilateral relationship between Maldives and Bangladesh.
