High Commissioner to Malaysia Visam resigns

The High Commissioner of Maldives to Malaysian Visam Ali resigns from the post.

 The Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid confirmed this in a tweet thanking her for “valuable service to the country” during her tenure as High Commissioner to Malaysia.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude for her counsel and friendship and wished her all the best in future endeavours.

Responding to Shahid’s message, Visam thanked him for his guidance and support during her time in office.

“It was an honour to have served under your able leadership,” she added.

Visam was appointed to the post of High Commissioner on March 29, 2019.

Previously, she was elected as the Parliamentarian for Maduvary constituency. She is married to the former leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, who is a former Parliamentarian as well.

Both Visam and Thasmeen were elected to the Parliament on DRP – previously led by ex-president Maumoon Abdul Gayyom. However, both have now signed to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
