42 kilo drug bust: Ahmed Hussain remanded in custody for 10 days

Ahmed Hussain who was arrested in connection to the 42 kilos of drugs that were discovered hidden under false flooring at a house in Male’ City’s Maafannu district has been remanded in custody for 10 days.

Via a tweet on Friday, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said that the drugs were discovered and seized during a joint operation initiated by the Police’s Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence on Thursday.

He disclosed the drugs seized during this operation as 42 kilos of heroin.

Later on, CP Hameed confirmed that the key suspect in connection to the case had been apprehended.

The key suspect arrested in connection to the case has been identified as a council member of opposition People’s National Congress (PNC), Ahmed Hussain. He had contested for Alifushi seat in the last parliamentary elections on PNC’s ticket as well.

Criminal Court, on Saturday night, remanded Ahmed Hussain in police custody for 10 days.

Following his arrest, PNC dismissed Ahmed Hussain from his position as a member of the party’s council and suspended him from all party activities.

Apart from Ahmed Hussain, another individual has also been arrested in connection to the case.

PNC had also suspended another council member, Shaheeb Ibrahim, in connection to a 130 kilo drug trafficking case back in 2020.
