President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Friday, has announced the government’s plan to build a women and children’s specialty hospital in Fuvahmulah City.
President Solih had made the announcement whilst speaking at a banquet hosted by the first couple for Fuvahmulah residents at the City tonight, as part of their ongoing four-day trip to the two southernmost atolls of Maldives.
Speaking at the banquet, he said that he believes Fuvahmulah City, just as any other city in the Maldives, should be entitled to the most comprehensive services. In line with this, he shared some of the developmental projects planned for the city by the government.
Noting plans to bring revolutionary changes to the City’s health sector, President Solih said that the hospital planned for the City will be developed as a women and children’s specialty hospital. He added physical works on the 50-bed capacity hospital will commence soon.
He also gave assurance that the airport developed at the Fuvahmulah City would be expanded further. Pointing out the expansion of the airport to be a pertinent request of Fuvahmulah Council – President Solih underscored that the runway current in place at the airport is not suitable for landing some kinds of aircrafts.
“I have requested the Planning Ministry, to conduct a technical survey to identify how much the airport can be expanded. Following this, by god’s will, this island’s airport will be expanded to an extent that is most suitable,” he had said.
President Solih also revealed plans to expand the harbor of the city, and development of additional roads measuring in 10-kilometers.
He also underscored that an expert party has been already been contracted to carry out the physical works on coastal protection at the city.
