Police cautions public over counterfeit US Dollars

Maldives Police Service has asked the public to be cautious of those selling fake US dollars.

Police noted that they have received complaints, and are investigating cases of selling fake US dollars from money exchange Viber groups and other social media platforms.

They further stated that after initially advertising the sale of dollars in the main group, they then communicate individually with those interested, and ask to meet up in remote locations.

Furthermore, Police said that they are investigating complaints of receiving counterfeit dollar bills after meeting up and handing over the Maldivian Rufiyaa, as well.

Hence, the Police urged to only exchange currencies with those who have a proper permit and to ensure that bills received are legitimate.
