Police delegation meets FBI on study tour in US

A delegation of Maldives Police Service met with departments of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in a funded study tour.

In a series of Tweets, the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed revealed that the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Programme (ICITAP) under the United States Department of Justice funded this study tour.

The Commissioner noted that this was a very useful visit to the US, where they got the opportunity to meet with officials from Justice Department, FBI and New York Police Department (NYPD).

 The Justice Department stated that this visit was to “strengthen their (Maldives Police) relationship with U.S law enforcement agencies and to share lessons learned regarding strategies to better investigate serious crime.”

The department also highlighted that opportunity for ICITAP and Maldives Police to learn more about the FBI’s International Operations Division, Counterterrorism Division and Global Initiatives.

The Police delegation was in the United States from February 27 till March 5 for the tour.

In addition to the Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan Yusuf, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Riyaz and other officials from the investigative department took part in the visit.
