56 civil servants to head to India for capacity building program

Fifty-six Maldivian civil servants has geared up to depart to India, for a capacity building program.

Civil Service Commission said that the delegation departing to India on next Saturday comprises totally of 60 people.

The team will conclude the training program and return to Maldives on March 12.

The capacity building program has been organized under Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Civil Service Commission and India’s National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) in 2019. This is the ninth batch of civil servants undergoing the program.

During this trip, participants will be visiting India’s New Delhi and Mussoorie.

At a sending-off ceremony held today before the participants depart to India, President of Civil Service Commission Mohamed Nasih emphasized the benefit of such programs to ensure inspired civil servants with innovative approach to governance. He encouraged the participants to take full benefit of the opportunity and learn by sharing experiences with Indian civil servants.  

Speaking at the ceremony, Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Munu Mahawar said that the training and capacity building is key pillar of India-Maldives partnership. He expressed gratitude over the fact that there is participation from various ministries, local councils, health and education institutions in addition to the participation of women. The High Commissioner added that he observed that partition from local councils contributes to the decentralization efforts of the Maldivian government.

To date, under this MoU, 220 civil servants have been trained under eight batches. The number will increase to 300 with the ninth batch. More such programs have been planned by NCGG to achieve the target of training 1000 civil servants within the 5-year MoU is in effect.
