Education Ministry has posted an invitation to bid seeking a contractor to demolish the building in Male’ City which previously housed Jamaluddin School.

Education Ministry announced on Thursday that it was seeking a contractor that can demolish the building using their own equipment.

Education Ministry said contractors need to be registered with Economic Ministry as a small or medium enterprise in order to be eligible for the project. Additional criteria are listed on the bid document.

The bid security for the project is MVR 15,000. The duration for bid security is 30 days from the date the project is opened for tender.

Registration for the project will be open online from February 13 to 2:00 pm on February 21.

Bids will be opened at 11:00 am on February 28 at the Ministry of Education’s Physical Facilities Development Section (eighth floor of Velana Building).

The Arabiyya School was built in 2011 and opened in 2013. While the building isn’t old, large cracks have formed in the walls, prompting questions over the structural integrity of the building and fear over safety of students.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the decision to allot the old Jamaluddin land to construct a new building for Arabiyya School back in December.
