Dhiraagu has signed as the digital partner for Ocean 6/50 event together with Unix Sporting and Shafraz Naeem, a well-known technical diver in the Maldives.
Ocean 6/50 is an extreme diving event organized to celebrate the Golden Jubilee year of Maldivian tourism.
It brings together the local and international diving community, marine researchers, and environmental activists to raise awareness and advocate for meaningful and sustainable solutions to the issues of plastic pollution, climate change, endangered species, and the marine ecosystem.
The main event would see a 50-hour dive and pledge signing, held from February 25-27, in the South Male’Atoll.
Through-out this period, divers can visit Shafraz to sign the pledge and stand in solidarity for the cause.
The dive is the first of its kind in the South Asian region and is set to be a significant record.
Dhiraagu states that care for oceans is a key focus area under its CSR program, which contributes to support the United Nations SDG Goal, “Life Below Water”.
The company further strengthened efforts since 2016, through discontinuation of single-use plastic bottles at the workplace, introduction of water dispensers, reusable bags and by carrying out company- wide and public awareness initiatives.
Dhiraagu raised awareness on the surge of plastic pollution and on important steps that the public could ensure to responsibly discard items like single use- gloves and masks in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dhiraagu states it is committed to work together with organizations and individuals to accelerate the efforts with a new push to create urgency and call to action for preserving the oceans, for the lives and livelihoods of future Maldivian generations.
