Former ACC member Ashraf appointed as Chairperson of Tender Board

Tender Board's Chairperson Ali Ashraf.

Ali Ashraf, who recently resigned from his post as a member at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), has been appointed as the Chairperson of Tender Board.

Ashraf was appointed as the Chairperson of Tender Board on January 18. Along with him, there are six additional members on the Board. They are:

  • Ali Irufan
  • Ubaidhulla Ali
  • Mohamed Iyad Ali
  • Mohamed Jinaan Saeed
  • Mumthaaz Abdul Rasheed
  • Aminath Sheereen

Tender Board is mandated to regulate and administer the public procurement function by formulating fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost-effective policies, procedures and processes for the procurement of goods and services, works, consultancy services; and inducing accountability of government agencies in relation to tender.

Ashraf rendered his resignation as a member of ACC on December 2, citing that he cannot make time for the Commission.

His resignation came after the Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions has decided to initiate a performance audit ACC members of and subsequently remove them from their posts should the Committee deems they are underperforming.

On December 26, the Committee recommended a vote of no-confidence motion on the Parliament floor against the ACC members.

All members of ACC resigned before the no-confidence vote could be taken.
