Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has stated that their leader, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom will ensure job opportunities for everyone in a PPM administration.
At a rally held by PPM recently, Yameen had stated that should PPM win the presidential elections scheduled to be next year, job opportunities will only be provided for members of the party – whereas members of other political parties will not have such chances.
PPM publicized a statement in defense of Yameen’s remarks today. In this regard, the statement read that Yameen’s words have been reported by media outlets by twisting the meaning.
The statement further read that Yameen had not said job opportunities will not be given to members of political parties other than PPM during his speech.
“Although he said that PPM members in atolls will not be left behind in offering job opportunities, never has it been said that job opportunities will not be given for members of other parties and individuals who do not belong to any party. Job opportunities will be ensured for all of them,” the statement read.
PPM also stressed that Yameen has been an exemplary leader that had created a record number of jobs in the Maldives, and ensured job opportunities for Maldivian citizens without bias of political parties.
Despite PPM having made the statement – Yameen, in that rally, had stated that during a PPM administration, job opportunities will only be offered to party members. Many, in return, had criticized the remark – adding that it is against the values of democracy.
