Man arrested for threatening to bomb senior officials at President Office

A man has been arrested for threatening to bomb senior officials at the President’s Office.

Maldives Police Service said that on January 19, a man had walked up to the MNDF officers guarding the President’s Office – and had told them that the senior officials inside should not get out, in addition to threatening to bomb them.

They further detailed that a 34-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested in connection to the case under a court order on Thursday.

When presented for his remand hearing at Hulhumale’ Court, he was remanded in custody for seven days at a place designated by the Home Ministry.

Whilst senior officials at the President’s Office have been threatened – threats of all kinds have been recently aimed at senior government officials as well. In this regard, a man who threatened Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed on social media was recently arrested as well.
