Police have arrested a man suspected of storing drugs inside a motorcycle registered to his father – and its subsequent sale.

They identified the suspect as a 23-year-old Maldivian man, Abdulla Sharuwath Shihab. He is suspected of storing drugs inside the under-seat of a motorcycle – and its subsequent sale.

When brought before the Criminal Court yesterday – he was remanded in police custody for a period of 15 days.

At the remand hearing, Police said the suspect tried to flee the scene when police officers approached him as he lifted the seat of the motorcycle due to suspicions of drugs being inside.

The Police also noted that he claimed to have lifted the seat to take a helmet inside at the request of his friend. However, there was no helmet inside the under-seat storage space at that moment.

The Police also alleges that the motorcycle is one that has been stolen. Sharuwath, however, said that he stopped near the cycle as he was amused after seeing it.

They also said that their findings so far indicate that the motorcycle used by Sharuwath to store the drugs is registered to his father.
