Primary for Komandoo seat on Sunday: PNC-PPM

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) - People’s National Congress (PNC) announced their decision to hold primary elections on Sunday, December 26 to determine a candidate to contest with the coalition’s ticket in the by-elections for the Komandoo parliamentary seat.

The coalition revealed that voting for those who wish to contest in the primary will take place from 14:00 pm till 17:00 pm at Sh.Komandoo, Sh.Maroshi, Sh.Foakaidhoo as well as in Male’.

PPM urged those who wish to contest with the coalition’s ticket to submit their application, along with all the documents required by Elections Commission, to the party office by 15:00 pm on Thursday.

Additionally, the party stated that any individual who was a registered member of PPM/PNC on December 20 can put forth their applications.

The Elections Commission announced that by-elections for the Komandoo constituency will be held on February 5, 2022.

The seat was left vacant after MP Hussain Waheed passed away on December 14. He died at the age of 53 after a year-long battle against cancer.

Hussain, a native of Foakaidhoo, was first elected to the Parliament during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration. He was re-elected to the Parliament in the elections held in 2019.

He is survived by his wife and three children; a son and two daughters.
