Maldives records additional 97 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced 97 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 93,629.     

According to HPA, the 97 new cases include; 22 cases from the greater Male’ region, 59 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 16 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 95 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 91,346.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 2,011 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

4,191 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,162 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 259 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 396,322 people have received their first dose and 366,038 people have been fully vaccinated, and 21,597 have received their booster dose.
