Police officer charged with sexual abuse of Addu teen

A police officer has been charged with repeated sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl in Addu City. 

Prosecutor General’s Office states that a case involving a suspect in a position of authority who threatened a minor, took nude pictures of her, and blackmailed her using the pictures, and sexually abused her multiple times since early 2020 was submitted to the S. Hithadhoo Magistrate Court on Monday, November 8. 

The suspect in the case is Ahmed Nazmeen, 34, Oman, Maadhadu, Fuvahmulah City. He worked for the Forensic Department in a police station in Addu City. 

He was charged with unlawful sexual contact with a minor. 

Nazmeen was arrested from the Hithadhoo district of Addu City on September 16, a day after the case was reported to the police. 

Hithadhoo Magistrate Court has ordered for him to be remanded in custody of the police pending the outcome of his trial. 

Nazmeen was suspended without pay after his arrest.
