President appoints Muna as HRCM’s President, Adham as Vice President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Wednesday, appointed Mariyam Muna, M. Baarana, as the President of Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdulla, Ma. Maaveyoge as the Vice President.

The two were appointed by the President under the powers vested in him under Section 8 of the Human Rights Commission Act.

Muna attained her Master of Business Administration from Edith Cowan University, Australia. Prior to her appointment – she was already serving as a member of HRCM. She also has previous work experience in a variety of jobs, including the post of Corporate Secretary in Asia Shipping and International Trading and other high-level posts in government and non-governmental organizations.

Adham holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Law (International Law) from the University of Wollongong, Australia. He was also serving as a member of HRCM at the time of the appointment. Prior to this, he has served as a lecturer in public international law at Villa College. He is also a recipient of the President’s Award for Achieving the Highest Academic Qualification and of the Australia Leadership Award.

The appointment of a President and Vice President to HRCM had remained delayed due to the lack of legally mandated number of members at the commission. HRCM met the requirement for a five-member commission with the appointment of Samau Ahmed Najeeb in October.
