President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on Saturday that one of the greatest issues facing the Maldivian community today is the spread of incorrect beliefs in the name of Islam.

He made the remark in his address to the nation on the anniversary of the day Maldives embraced Islam.

President Solih said that a few people believe incorrect beliefs being spread in the name of Islam, threatening lives, inciting violent attacks, and damaging people’s properties.

He said that it was critical for teachers and parents to educate children with genuine Islamic values and principles in order to combat the spread of such incorrect beliefs.

Instilling the true Islamic faith in the hearts of children and raising children with Islamic principles is the key to raising a good generation, he said.

President Solih concluded his speech by advising people to follow in the footsteps of Prophet Mohamed PBUH by protecting people's lives and belongings, respecting each other, eliminating envy, and forgiving each other.

Maldives commemorates the day the nation embraced Islam on the 2nd of Rabiʽ al-Akhir every year on the Islamic Calendar.
