Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has stated that they will be taking action against which fails to supply essential medications to customers.

Via an announcement made yesterday – MFDA said that the essential medications to be supplied at pharmacies should be easily available to customers in the pharmacy at all times, without interruption.

However, they noted of having received complaints from the public over the failure to supply essential medication by pharmacies at the time required – obstructing them from receiving necessary treatment.

In this regard, MFDA has urged pharmacies to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential medication to the public.

Therefore – MFDA has instructed all pharmacies that are in operation, and registered to with them, to make arrangements for the uninterrupted supply of the essential medications they have penned down in this list.

MFDA also noted that the pharmacies have the option to supply Prescription Only Medicine (MOC) and Over the Counter Medicine (OTC) that is not included in the essential medication list – subject to that it is penned down in the approved drug list.

In addition to this, MFDA said the pharmacies will be required to submit a stock report of the essential medications in writing to the Authority every three months so that they can ensure that pharmacies adhere to their instructions.
