Boat in distress at Huvadhoo Sea harbors at Maamendhoo

Almaa; a boat that was in distress at Huvadhoo Sea subsequent to rough waters – has safely harbored at GA. Maamendhoo with assistance from the coastguard.

The boat was traveling to Addu City from Male’ City – when it got caught in rough waters and was unable to travel any further.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said that a distress call was placed by the boat requesting their assistance at around 13:45 in the afternoon yesterday – following which a Coastguard squadron was dispatched to assist them.

At the time it ran into trouble – the boat was traveling approximately eight nautical meters north of GA. Ekefaru. There were eight passengers on board in total; five Maldivians and three foreigners.

The boat safely harbored at Maamendhoo at around 21:30 last night under the protective custody of Coastguard.
