COVID-19: 70 new cases, 54 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced 70 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 85,278.      

According to HPA, the 70 new cases include; 13 cases from the greater Male’ region, 54 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and three cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 84 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 83,784.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,319 active cases.      

There are 15 patients in hospitals.      

3,177 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,316 from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at one percent.

Maldives has recorded 232 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 392,887 people have received their first dose and 344,123 people have been fully vaccinated.
