Dr. Waseema Fikuree has been appointed the Dean of Maldives National University (MNU)’s Faculty of Education.
She signed her contract with MNU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Shareef in a ceremony this Sunday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Waseema said she will do everything in her power to make MNU’s Faculty of Education a leading training facility for teachers in the region in the coming four years.
“As such, I will work on improving the quality of courses at the faculty, boosting enrollments, facilitate training and educational experiences for lecturers, and reinforce relations between the staff and between students and staff,” she said.
Dr. Waseema said that the Faculty of Education has been experiencing a continued drop in enrollments each term, and stressed the need for well-planned and sustainable efforts to boost enrollments.
“We need to engage in effective work to boost enrollments for Bachelor of Education, and primary and secondary programs,” she said.
Speaking at the ceremony, MNU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam congratulated Dr. Waseema on her appointment as Dean of Faculty of Education.
She also thanked Dr. Waseema’s predecessor, Mariyam Fizana Rasheed for her services over the past four years.
Dr. Waseema has 15 years of experience working for MNU, during which time she took part in committees while working as an academic employee.
Dr. Waseema, who has a Ph.D. in Education, had been serving as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education since February 11, 2021.
