The police officer who was arrested in Addu City for the sexual abuse of a young girl has been jailed pending the outcome of trial.
Police had arrested the police officer last night – after residents in Addu City had gathered on the roads demanding his arrest.
The police officer was brought before Hithadhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing today – at which the Court had decided to remand him to custody pending the outcome of trial.
The sexual abuse allegations are being investigated collaboratively by the Police and the Gender Ministry.
Many locals took the streets on Thursday after they learned of the case – demanding the arrest of the police officer.
Clashes took place between protestors and the police, before the protesters were eventually dispersed.
The protest was concluded following the arrest of the police officer in question.
