Business visa applications of foreign nationals who are due to arrive in the Maldives for the purpose of business or work – can only be submitted through Economic Ministry’s Business Portal from now on. The change was announced by the Ministry in a regulatory reform update for the Business Visa Regulation gazetted yesterday.

As per the amended regulations – those who meet the eligibility criteria of being entitled to a business visa will be granted the Ministry’s approval within a span of 10 days from the date on which the application was lodged on. The visa for approved persons will be issued by the Controller of Immigration – and a fee of MVR 750 will be charged.

Prior to this, business visa applications had to be submitted straight to the Maldives Immigration. Just as before, the Controller of Immigration has the discretion to reject the applications of those requesting for Business Visa – subject to that they do not meet the eligibility criteria.

Business visas are issued to each applicant for a period of 30 to 90 days per year. Within this year – the visa may be extended by 30 days each consecutive time upon its expiration – but not to exceed 90 days in total.
