A total of 20,239 children who are between the ages of 12 and 17 have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination.
This is more than 50 percent of the children of the said age group.
Education Ministry, Health Ministry and Health Protection Agency (HPA) collaboratively commenced a special vaccination program for school children last Sunday.
According to Education Ministry, the program has received overwhelming support both in the Male’ area and from atolls.
Children who are between the ages of 12 and 17 are administered the Pfizer vaccine.
In this regard, the Pfizer vaccine currently being administered for children across the nation are of the 128,600 doses donated by the United States to the Maldives through the COVAX facility.
The Government of Maldives has commenced an ambitious campaign to fully inoculate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of August.
At present, 80 percent of the eligible population have completed their first dose out of which 69 percent has also received their second dose.
