President promises to double pay for Women’s Development Committee

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has promised to double the salaries currently allocated for members of Women’s Development Committee (WDC). 

He made the promise in a meeting with members of Th. Kinbidhoo and Kinbidhoo WDC this Wednesday, as part of his current tour of Th. Atoll. 

The President was greeted upon arrival at Kinbidhoo with a performance on boduberu by local youth. His first stop was to the local health center, where he met with the staff to discuss issues that need to be addressed to improve their services. 

His second stop was to the local school, where he met with teachers and other staff members.  

President’s spokesperson Mabrook Azeez said the teachers and staff told the President that the six additional classrooms under construction at the school will solve the space constraints currently facing the school. 

The President then met with members of Kinbidhoo Council and WDC.

At the meeting, the President said his administration has decided to double the pay for WDC members. 

Other subjects discussed at the meeting include protection of the heritage site ‘Veyru’, housing needs at the island and construction of row houses, and coastal protection. 

President Solih is scheduled to visit seven islands in his current tour of Th. Atoll. He is accompanied on the tour by cabinet ministers, senior officials from the President’s Office and a delegation of high-level government officials.
