Three ministers to be summoned to Majilis over Govt. failure to fulfill pledges for Naifaru

Three ministers are set to be summoned to the Parliament over the government’s failure to fulfill the pledges made for Lh. Naifaru.

Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam confirmed to Sun that the three ministers being summoned to the Parliament are; Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof and Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Hussain Rasheed Hassan.

MP Shiyam detailed that Minister Aslam was being summoned to over the delays in the completion of the water and sewerage project in Naifaru in addition to the failure to commence physical work on the road development project.

“The company initially working on the water and sewerage project was terminated – whereas another company was contracted during last October to finish the project within four months. As the project still remains unfinished – the Planning Minister is being summoned to clarify the reasoning behind the delay in addition to also finding out when physical work will commence on the road development project,” he had said.

He further detailed that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had pledged to establish a youth center in Naifaru, whereas no work is being done for it – marking the reason why Youth Minister is being summoned.

Additionally, Shiyam noted that the President had also pledged to establish an ice plant in Naifaru three years ago – for which no work is also being done for it, marking the reason why Fisheries Minister is being summoned.

In addition to these three ministers, Shiyam also expressed his intention to summon Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla to the Majilis over the Police Board’s decision to remove seven senior police officers from their posts – in order to clarify whether this decision was politically influenced or not.

“Minister is being summoned in order to clarify whether the Police Board’s decision was politically influenced or not – in addition to question how the decision was come to. From the seven members on the Board, three are appointed by Home Minister – and two by the President. So it is important to understand why these long-serving officers were fired unexpectedly,” he had said.
