Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that 294,109 people have completed their COVID-19 vaccination in Maldives.
According to the records released by HPA on Friday night, 630 people in the greater Male’ region and 872 people in the atolls received their first dose on Thursday. Meanwhile, 641 people in the greater Male’ region and 563 people in the atolls received their second dose.
The records show that by the end of Thursday, 342,511 people have received their first dose, and 294,109 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Maldives.
Maldives recently launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. Vaccination of children above the age of 12 years is set to begin in the starting week.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih recently stated that Maldives has enough stocks of AstraZeneca vaccine to fully vaccinate the eligible population in Maldives.
A shipment of AstraZeneca donated by Japan is set to arrive in Maldives this August, while China has pledged 400,000 more doses of Sinopharm.
Maldives is set to roll out restrictions aimed at encouraging more people to get vaccinated. The new restrictions, set to take effect in September, including requiring government employees who have not been fully vaccinated to get tested every two weeks, and barring unvaccinated customers from cafes and restaurants, as well as domestic flights.
