Australia donates 3.5 tonnes of PPE to Maldives

Australia has made a generous donation of 3.5 tonnes of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to the Maldives.

The donation was made on Tuesday through the High Commission of Australia in Sri Lanka. 

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid thanked the Australian government for this donation via a tweet. He also added that the PPE donated will help Maldives enhance its capacity to identify and curb the spread of the virus.

Minister Shahid also expressed his gratitude to the Australian government for the continuous support provided to the Maldives in its efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Australian government has rendered assistance in increasing the PPE capacity in the Maldives prior to this as well. They have also assisted in capacity building of frontline workers in the Maldives and have also supported the development of women and girls.

With the donation made yesterday, Australia has rendered assistance valued at MVR 9 million through the course of the pandemic.
