Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced further relaxation of quarantine rules for fully vaccinated travelers on Thursday, including releasing fully vaccinated individuals currently in home quarantine after traveling from greater Male’ region if they present proof of a negative PCR test, provided it has been 14 days since they received their second dose.

HPA said that children who are in eligible for COVID-19 vaccination will also be released from home quarantine with a negative PCR test.

Furthermore, the quarantine period for fully vaccinated international travelers currently in quarantine in Maldives has been shortened to seven days, at the end of which they will be tested and released if they test result comes back negative for COVID-19.

They are required to have had their second dose of a vaccine on WHO’s COVID-19 Emergency Use Listing 14 days prior to traveling to Maldives.

Maldives has recently announced significant eases in restrictions following its success curbing an alarming surge in COVID-19 cases back in May.

Fully vaccinated adults, as well as children who are ineligible for vaccination, can now travel to islands which aren’t under monitoring without being subject to mandatory quarantine if they present proof of a negative PCR test taken maximum 72 hours prior to traveling.

The change was made after the positivity rate in greater Male’ region dropped below 5 percent.

However, if the positivity rate rises to 5-10 percent, fully vaccinated travelers will be required to undergo 7 days of mandatory quarantine, and if the positivity rate rises above 20 percent, fully vaccinated travelers will be required to undergo 14 days of quarantine.
