Guesthouses in the Maldives will be reopened for South Asian tourists starting from July 30.

The decision was announced by President's Office spokesperson Mabrook Azeez in a press conference today.

Speaking at the press conference, Mabrook stressed that while guesthouses may be reopened – safety measures will be strictly enforced in islands at which guesthouses are operated.

Mabrook further detailed that priority will be given to vaccinate 60 percent of the entire population at islands where guesthouses are operated, and even higher priority will be given on vaccinating 90 percent of guesthouse employees.

Another priority is to vaccinate those above the age of 60 residing at guesthouse operating islands, said Mabrook.

While it has been decided to reopen guesthouses for South Asian tourists starting from July 30, resorts will be reopened for them on July 15.
