Bangladeshi medical team departs from Maldives

 A medical team of Bangladesh Armed Forces deployed to the Maldives by the Bangladeshi government to assist the island nation to combat the COVID-19 pandemic departed home yesterday after completing their assignment.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the team departed to Bangladesh yesterday afternoon. They arrived in the Maldives on March 3 in order to assist in the country-wide vaccination program, in response to a request made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

This team included 10 nurses, seven medical assistants and one anesthesiologist.

In their time in the Maldives, the team worked alongside local healthcare professionals contributing their professional expertise and support to the vaccination roll-out in the Male’ area.

Making COVID-19 vaccine freely accessible to all Maldivian nationals and migrant workers, irrespective of legal status — is an integral part of the Maldivian government’s COVID-19 response.

The Maldivian government expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, the Government and the Bangladesh Armed Forces for the unwavering support and generous assistance extended to the Maldives to combat the difficulties faced at multiple fronts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
